Munich, Germany - TÜV SÜD has been authorised by the Zhaga Consortium, an international industry-wide association, to provide certification of LED modules and lamp holders according to Zhaga’s specifications known as Books. The authorisation covers the certification body of TÜV SÜD Product Service in Munich and the TÜV SÜD testing laboratory in Shenzhen. The Zhaga Books provide global specifications of the size, mechanics, photometric and thermal properties to ensure interchangeability for LED modules and lamp holders. At present, TÜV SÜD offers testing and certification according to the specifications in Zhaga Books 2, 3 and 7.
The authorisation was preceded by a comprehensive audit carried out by a Zhaga team. The audit also included comprehensive product comparison tests to ensure comparable results in the Zhaga system. The test range of TÜV SÜD according to Zhaga specifications covers interchangeable LED light engine (LLE) with integrated electronic control gear (Book 2), spot LLE with separate electronic control gear (Book 3) and LLE modules with separate electronic control gear (Book 7). Zhaga specifications do not include testing for safety, service life, energy efficiency or colour range and stability. These criteria are covered via international and national standards, such as IEC, EN, UL etc.
Comprehensive range of testing and services for lamps and luminaries
TÜV SÜD’s portfolio of services for lamps and luminaries is not limited to certification according to Zhaga specifications. The service provider offers numerous other activities and certification services that facilitate global market access, including safety tests according to international standards, testing of electromagnetic compatibility, testing for chemical requirements, energy efficiency and various other performance indicators.
Zhaga is a global consortium of around 180 companies from the international lamp and luminaries industry. Its main goal is the provision of an interface specification which ensures interchangeability of LED light sources made by different manufacturers from around the world. The idea is to accelerate the use of LED light sources in general lighting applications. Zhaga develops specifications (Specification Books) for the interfaces between LED modules/light engines and LED lamps.
